Jason has been working with high school and college student-athletes for over a decade. Jason prides himself on his vast experience in having handled a compendium of complex and unique legal and compliance related issues in the high school, college and NCAA context.

Many times athletes find themselves being treated unfairly and feel as though they do not have independent support when encountering a disciplinary or administrative situation with their university or a governing body like the NCAA.  In many cases coaches and athletic departments do what they perceive to be in the PROGRAM’S best interest and do not concern themselves with the best interest of the student-athlete.  Student-athletes need their own advocates to guide them through this complex and difficult landscape.

Throughout his legal career, Jason has worked with both male and female student-athletes in many sports concerning all types of issues impacting student-athlete life and eligibility.  Jason has previously handled issues including, but not limited to, FHSAA and NCAA based appeals, guidance on eligibility, hardship appeals, wrongful team/school/NCAA suspensions and/or dismissals, improper reduction or withdrawal of scholarship (Grant in Aid) funds, advocacy in in internal administrative proceedings and investigations, defense of student-athlete transfer and release rights, and much more.  Jason has also defended student-athletes in connection with disputed drug testing issues in relation to internal school testing and testing conducted directly by the NCAA through Drug Free Sport.

Jason’s body of work has been well documented in the media and has involved athletes competing in many of the major NCAA conferences including, ACC, Sun Belt, Big Ten, Conference USA and the Colonial Athletic Conference.  Jason has also worked in conjunction with several athletic departments while serving as an advocate for student-athletes.

In addition to working with student-athletes, Jason has also assisted retired NBA players with their family law related needs and in 2014 served as a partner with the National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA).  Jason is also a frequent expert contributor on legal issues pertaining to the law and the NCAA and has provided commentary on a wide array of sports related issues for the Miami Herald and the media as well as other outlets.  Jason also frequently serves as a panel speaker at area high schools, large universities and sports symposiums and most recently he served as panelist at the Legends of Sports Symposium in Cancun, Mexico.
